This apartment in the historic town of Icod de los Vinos is within a 200 year old Canarian manor house, opening onto a spacious shared patio, and with its own private balcony overlooking the sea.

The apartment itself is immaculate, but retains all the features of a traditional Canarian building, with its wooden beams and tiled floors. It is on the first floor, and is one of several similar apartments which are arranged around the central patio. All windows open onto this quiet patio, apart from the dining area, whose window opens onto the private balcony with its pretty sea views. And on the balcony itself, of course, you can enjoy your morning coffee Tenerife style, gazing out over the sea. Ditto for evening refreshments.

The living area itself is divided into the dining area, with balcony window, to the right; a kitchenette; and then the lounge area with a sofa and two armchairs. There is satellite TV and also local channels, where you can set most movies and TV series to their original language. The soveværelse is cosy, with its warm, rustic feel, and has an ensuite bathroom with shower. And don’t forget that the communal patio is another ‘living room’, where you can take in the excellent views to the mountains and the Atlantic ocean from your sun lounger.

This accommodation allows you to experience a historic, sprawling manor house at an affordable price, and is an oasis of peace right in the centre of Icod de los Vinos. Cafes and restaurants lining the leafy streets and squares are within easy walking distance, and the legendary dragon tree, said to be a thousand years old, is only 800 metres away. One of the largest volcanic caves in the world, the Cueva del Viento, is a short drive away. The closest beach is Playa San Marcos, just 3.5km away, with some little bars and restaurants. It is a good option if you are not a strong swimmer, as unlike many Tenerife beaches it does not tend to have dangerous currents. A little further afield, you could explore the hiking in dramatic Masca Valley, Teno nature reserve in one of the most isolated parts of the island, the swankier neighbourhoods of Guia de Isora and Adeje around to the south, or the bustling bohemian town of Puerto de la Cruz around to the north. A great base for wherever your mood takes you!
