Everything a holiday in the south of Tenerife should be: more than 300 sunny days a year, more than 350 rain-free days, and great access to the coast.

This apartment is within a well-maintained gated complex with a communal swimming pool, in a well-to-do residential area. There is plenty of outdoor private space: each soveværelse has its own small balcony, and there is a terrace decked with tropical foliage where you can enjoy open-air dining. Get that barbeque going!

On the ground floor you will find a bright, spacious living room with dining area, and a separate well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher. An arched servery hatch connects the kitchen with the dining area – convenient! There is also a guest toilet. One door opens onto the private terrace with its little garden, and the other door takes you straight out to the communal swimming pool. Ah, sub-tropical life at its best.

Upstairs, there are two soveværelser, each with its own balcony, and a bathroom.

The red soveværelse, ‘la roja’, has a large bed (180x200cm) with a very good mattress, a ceiling fan, a safe deposit box, and an ample wardrobe.

The orange soveværelse, ‘la naranja’, has a double bed (160x200cm), also with a very good mattress, air conditioning, and a large wardrobe.

Chayofa is an affluent suburb above the coastal towns of Las Americas and Los Cristianos. You are just far enough up the mountain, at about 5km from the ocean,  to have that ‘up and away from it all’ feeling, while still enjoying the warmer coastal climate (hence its popularity with those who can afford to live here). In fact, if you are on holiday looking for some winter sun, and don’t want to risk the potentially chilly or cloudy weather that you may encounter at an even just slightly higher elevation, or in the north of the island, then Chayofa is a good bet.

While definitely out of the concrete jungle of the coast, if the twinkling lights of the coastline tempt you out after dark, then there is plenty of nightlife to explore. And just a little further westward along the coast, the buzz of Las Americas gives way to a more spacious vibe. There is a pedestrian walkway through landscaped tropical gardens heading west from Las Americas, and getting progressively more upscale until it terminates at the five star Bahía del Duque resort. Perfect for a long, leisurely evening stroll.

This is also the part of the coast where you will find great beaches with sun loungers and beach bars. But if you are looking for a wild, uncrowded beach, there is one of those not too far away – Playa La Caleta. Park below the golf course and walk down with your beach bag to this beautiful, expansive beach.

Great if you want to be away from the crowds, but not in total isolation. Here you can dip into the more glamourous side of Tenerife, enjoy all the amenities of the bigger towns, soak up some winter sun on the beach, and then retire to your peaceful apartment. An excellent low stress choice.
